Daily Kos: Breitbart's psychotic break
September 19, 2011- djtyg found the disturbing video of Andrew Breitbart at a Massachusetts tea party event:
I'm under attack all the time. They call me gay, there are death threats... There are times where I'm not thinking as clearly as I should, and in those unclear moments, I always think to myself, 'Fire the first shot.' Bring it on. Because I know who's on our side. They can only win a rhetorical and propaganda war. They cannot win. We outnumber them in this country, and we have the guns... I'm not kidding. They talk a mean game, but they will not cross that line because they know what they're dealing with.
And I have people who come up to me in the military, major named people in the military, who grab me and they go, 'Thank you for what you're doing, we've got your back.'
They understand that. These are the unspoken things we know, they know."
Shit, I've got active duty military people giving me props all the time, but it's not something I feel the need to brag about. The military is a microcosm of American society, and yes, there are soldiers and airmen and sailors who support one party or the other! It doesn't mean that these military supporters of Daily Kos are ready to go out and shoot up Fox News headquarters for us.
The notion that the U.S. military would commit treason by militarily backing up the tea party is beyond ludicrous. "We've got your back" wouldn't, in a million years, translate into "we'll shoot MoveOn hippies for you." And of course, Breitbart's major doesn't say that. That's why Breitbart invents his "unspoken things" canard. He desperately needs to feel as though his support is broader than a simple "attaboy."
Because deep to his core, he wants violence. He says so himself. He tries to control it (in his "clearer" moments), but that's a battle he doesn't always win ("unclear moments").
If this was just a lone fringe nutter, you might shrug it off. But after three years of right-wing-fueled violence, it bears watching. Because this is the message that Breitbart is delivering to the tea party crowd—that the military will back them up if they decide to start shooting their political enemies.
All you need is a few more unhinged Breitbarts with guns to get a lot more people killed.
